The TubIN Festival introduces the work of Estonia’s greatest symphonist Eduard Tubin and his contemporary composers, reflecting on the events and themes associated with them. The festival takes place in Tartu. Welcome to the TubIN festival!
Festival TubIN 2025
In the 120th anniversary year of Eduard Tubin’s birth, the TubIN festival will focus on his early works, tracing his journey to becoming one of the most important symphonists of the 20th century
The festival will feature rarely performed early songs and Tubin’s first major orchestral work “Suite on Estonian Motifs,” as well as his Second Symphony, “Legendary,” which divided the Estonian music scene into two camps
One of the central themes of Joonas Hellerma’s discussion panel will be choosing sides – pro et contra. The festival will also highlight the work of Arvo Pärt, whose early creative path was significantly influenced by composition textbooks sent from Sweden by Eduard Tubin. Both composers share a common “musical father” – Heino Eller, as Tubin put it.
Additionally, the festival will introduce the Ministry of Culture’s creative research program project, “How to Share Enthusiasm? Mediating Complex Musical Structures to an Uninformed Listener through Animated Scores Using Eduard Tubin’s 1st Symphony as an Example.”
