Giacomo Puccini. “Madama Butterfly”
Opera in two acts
Performance of the St. Peterburg Chamber Opera
Premiered on February 3rd, 2006
Running time: 2.50 h

“Madam Butterfly” is one of opera’s most enduring tales of unrequited love. Puccini’s poignant score follows the tragic tale of Cio San, a young Japanese girl who falls in love with American naval officer Pinkerton, with devastating consequences. The great Italian composer Giacomo Puccini
wrote the opera at the end of 1903. The opera premiered on February 17, 1904, in Milan Scala and then began the triumphal journey of this opera on the Italian and world stages. “Madama Butterfly” has been on the playbill
of the world opera houses for more than a hundred years. The production of the opera at St. Peterburg Chamber Opera is built masterfully and designed thoroughly. Instead of external effects and pseudo-Oriental exoticism, it strikes the audience with its bright passion, personal touch, and psychological depth.

The opera will be performed by the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera instead of the Croatian National Theatre. Tickets purchased for Friday’s performance will be valid on the same day of the week or will be redeemed until 11 July (inclusive).
