The new album by the Norwegian saxophone player, Trygve Seim, with its lyrical undertones, strong themes, endless searches for and discoveries of melody, is an immediate classic. The pieces, of which most were composed in Helsinki, the capital city of our northern neighbours, radiate tributes in various different directions. There are songs which are references to Igor Stravinsky and Jimmy Webb, songs which are dedicated to the talented bandmates of Seim and also themes which take a bow in the direction of Ornette Coleman and Bill Evans.

The concert programme consists of songs from the album “Helsinki Songs” (2018). The record producer is Manfred Eicher, head of the ECM record company.
“Helsinki Songs” 31 August 2018 ECM 2607
