Introduction

The opening of the exhibition A Piano Solo The Foyers of Estonia Concert Hall
Compiled by Virge Joamets

At the beginning of the 19th century a solo pianist was just a single musician appearing in a concert but by 1850, a piano recital was pretty much how we know it today. Thanks to the perfomance practices of Ferenc Liszt, Sigismond Thalberg and Clara Schumann above all others, piano recitals became one of the most loved types of public concerts. The exhibition focuses on the developing of the traditions and aesthetics of a piano recital.
