Many Estonian creative persons, including Eduard Tubin, travelled in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. At the end of February 1938, Tubin met Zsoltan Kodály in Budapest, listened to his cello sonata and travelled to Vienna, attending an opera and Sergey Rachmaninov’s solo concert. Only a few weeks later, Austria was annexed by German troups and the political situation tensed to the limit.
