Avi Berman. „Kaddish“ (Estonian prmiere)
Penderecki. Oratorio „Dies illa“ (Estonian premiere)
Beethoven. Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125
A programme with faith in healing the world, which moves through prayer (Kaddish) and a message of
peace („Dies illa“) toward joy („Ode to Joy“). The concert features the works of two great masters. Andres Mustonen, who compiled the programme, has called Penderecki the contemporary Beethoven, since ‘it is Penderecki who, at this time, writes the world’s most monumental compositions.’
Beethoven’s ninth was the genius’ last symphony, „Dies illa“ was written by the 82-year-old Penderecki in 2014, and has not yet been performed in Estonia. Andres Mustonen and Krzysztof Penderecki have been united for decades in cooperation, understanding, and friendship. At the composition’s premiere
in Brussels (2014), 1300 singers performed this piece under the direction of Andres Mustonen.
