Carmina Burana („Songs from Beuern“) is a large German manuscript of 254 poems and texts mostly from 13th century and in Latin language. The title to the manuscript was given only in the middle of the 19th century, because it was preserved in the Benedictine abbey of Benediktbeuern. Carmina Burana is perhaps the most important source for Latin secular poetry of the 12th century. Most of the texts are satirical and bawdy, there are moral songs, love songs, drinking songs and mocking songs.
