Performance of Moscow Helikon-Opera“Nabucco” was the third opera by Giuseppe Verdi and his first masterpiece. The plot of “Nabucco” is borrowed from the books of the Old Testament describing the siege of Jerusalem by the Assyrian king Nebuchadnezzar (Italian – Nabucco) and the Babylonian captivity of the people of Israel. Verdi’s opera is a battle of nations, a clash of religions, a character of biblical proportions and violent romantic passions. Nabucco is famous for its extreme complexity of the vocal parts that combine the brilliance of bel canto with dramatic power, and magnificent choirs, among which is the famous “Va, pensiero”.
