William Byrd was a respected musician who at his mature age was even called the father of music. During composer´s lifetime, the Church of England separated from papal authority, and Byrd – a Catholic, survived several arrests. Fortunately, his musical talent was highly appreciated by Queen Elizabeth, and the composer escaped the worst. In addition to Byrd’s music, the concert will feature works by Frenchman Claude Le Jeune, Alfonso Ferrabosco II (an Italian who lived in England) and Byrd’s pupil Thomas Tomkins.
