The Born in Jõhvi: “August von Kotzebue’s Last Act” initiative launched what we hope will be a lasting partnership between Eesti Kontsert and the Jõhvi local council. This program invites independent artists to a three-month residency in Jõhvi to create a new stage work. Director Elina Pähklimägi has gathered an accomplished team, featuring dramaturg Katariina Libe and performers Triinu Meriste, Jaune Kimmel, Janek Joost, and Markus Truup.
The cast, who are based throughout Estonia, set out to develop a piece that would both reflect the region’s heritage and offer a touching experience for those attending. August von Kotzebue’s biography delivered the ideal subject matter for this vision.
