The Joel Remmel Trio has been performing together for 15 years, a milestone recently marked by winning the Jazz Album of the Year title at the 2026 Estonian Music Awards. In this concert series, the trio takes the audience beneath the starry sky to perform “Kuu atlas” (Atlas of the Moon), a complete work written specifically for them by Tõnu Kõrvits. The concert features the premiere of Kõrvits’s “Carroll”, adding another layer to this musical journey.
I believe everyone has a personal connection and feeling when it comes to the Moon, whether simply gazing into the night sky or observing its details. This piece, however, is a musical mapping of a lunar journey. Tõnu is a passionate follower of moon missions and has woven nuances into the score that an ordinary dreamer might completely overlook. The composition blends actual, charted locations with dreamlike, imaginary travels. Since jazz musicians typically compose and arrange their own repertoire, it is quite rare for such an acclaimed composer to create an entire work for an ensemble like ours.

The resulting music intertwines the clarity of traditional jazz with the crispness of Nordic soundscapes, shaping a distinctive and cohesive sonic experience. It is music that refuses to rush, capturing your full attention and inviting you to be present in the moment.
