Lithuanian composer Laurynas Vakaris Lopas’ magnificent “Te Deum” is the centerpiece of the joint autumn concert by the Estonian National Male Choir and the Tallinn Police Orchestra. The programme spotlights the majestic Te Deum by Lithuanian composer Laurynas Vakaris Lopas — a work known for its melodic richness and broad appeal. The Police Orchestra’s principal conductor Riivo Jõgi, presents his new arrangements of beloved choral works by Tormis, Mägi and Tubin.
Laurynas Vakaris Lopas, a significant figure in 20th-century Lithuanian music, is a renowned composer, conductor, and educator. His diverse range as a composer includes vocal-symphonic works, pop songs, and children’s music.
The Tallinn Police Orchestra, one of Estonia’s professional brass ensembles, has been a long-term collaborator with the Estonian National Male Choir. In addition to a full complement of brass and percussion instruments, the Tallinn Police Orchestra boasts its own big band, composed of jazz-loving musicians from the orchestra and led by Siim Aimla, one of Estonia’s leading figures in big band music. The orchestra also features smaller instrumental ensembles, including a Dixieland band, brass quintet, woodwind quintet, a female quintet, saxophone quartet, and swing band.
