This evening turns jazz standards into fragments that are sometimes brilliant and intellectual, sometimes powerful or insightful. Glennie commands an entire battery of percussion instruments on the stage and combines her rhythmic side with the improvisational music of the trio – the result being a truly impressive performance.
Evelyn Glennie is a legendary percussionist, the first 20th century percussion virtuoso with a solo career. She has received over 100 awards, including two Grammys and a Polar Music Prize. She has performed at the opening of the Olympic Games (2012), performed together with the most famous orchestras and conductors, with ensemble partners from Björk all the way to Fred Frith, released over 30 CDs. “The fact that I lost my hearing made me a better listener,” she has said about her phenomenal power and mission.
