Even though Arvo Pärt and Eduard Tubin were separated by the Iron Curtain, they found a way to connect through their shared teacher, Heino Eller. Tubin managed to send Pärt composition textbooks that were banned in Estonia at the time. These books helped Pärt write his earlier orchestral works.
It’s also quite telling that one of Pärt’s most beloved pieces, „Fratres“ is dedicated to the memory of Eduard Tubin.
