ESTONIA SINFONIETTA is an orchestra of creatively alert artists who have been performing for many years together in prestigious European concert halls such as the Golden Hall of Vienna Musikverein, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Cologne and St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Flagey and Bozar in Brussels, and the Ars Musica festivals in Belgium, Festival Internazionale Pianistico di Brescia e Bergamo, Mittelfest and Festival Emilia Romagna in Italy, Iitti Music Festival in Finland, and the Musikfest Kreuth am Tegernsee in Germany.

The composition of the Estonian Sinfonietta depends on the repertoire that is played. It is a flexible orchestra that can play music from the Baroque to the present day, perform major symphonic works and participate in opera projects. Thus, the Estonian Sinfonietta has the opportunity to play a significant part of the world’s musical heritage. The Estonian Sinfonietta does not have a chief conductor or artistic director, as musical works are designed together.

Conductors are invited by the orchestra to participate according to the repertoire. The cooperation partners of the orchestra are highly experienced soloists-visionaries, which whom the musicians are working together in order to achieve an interpretation that speaks to the contemporary listener with a personal sound and an expressive presentation.

The concertmaster of the soloists of Estonian Sinfonietta at the opening concert of the “Music of Seven Cities Festival” is Johannes Põlda.

Johannes Põlda is about to complete his Master’s degree at the Helsinki Sibelius Academy under the supervision of Mari Tampere-Bezrodny. He has supplemented his education in the Eastman School of Music in America in the violin class of Prof Oleh Krysa and taken conducting classes in Mark Scatterday’s and Mark Powell’s orchestral classes.
