Sisters Katia and Marielle Labèque have been an active pianist duo for half a century, having recorded nearly fifty albums for the leading record companies Warner Classics, Decca, Philips, EMI, and Sony. Their performance is bright and engaging with Berio’s, Boulez’s or Ligeti’s extremely complex modern works as well as with more minimalist works or musical arrangements. In Tallinn, The Labèques will perform Francis Poulenc’s mellifluous Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra (1932), where jazz, French chanson, and Indonesian gamelan influences merge beautifully. At the opening concert of the Piano Festival, Olari Elts and ERSO will be performing Ravel’s „La valse“ (1920) and Canadian composer Claude Vivier’s monumental modern epic „Siddhartha“ (1976).
