The distinguished German-born conductor Nils Schweckendiek has served as the Artistic Director of the Helsinki Chamber Choir since 2007. He became known to Estonian audiences in 2024 through his performances with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

Contemporary music is a cornerstone of Schweckendiek’s career. He has recorded for prestigious labels including BIS, Toccata Classics, Alba, and ICSM Records. His interpretations of works by living composers have earned widespread international acclaim, such as a 2024 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance (featuring the music of Kaija Saariaho), a Gramophone Editor’s Choice, the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and the Finnish Emma Award.

In addition to his work in Estonia, Schweckendiek has conducted many of the world’s elite vocal ensembles, including the RIAS Kammerchor and the SWR Vokalensemble. He has also collaborated with most Finnish orchestras and professional choirs in Spain, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, and Croatia.
