Right before ENSO’s second Chinese tour, the home audience will be given a performance of the works to be played on the tour. Besides works by the Estonian composers Eduard Tubin and Arvo Pärt, Jean Sibelius’ classic Kullervo Symphony, based on the Finnish national epic Kalevala, will also be performed in China.

The soloist in Tubin’s suite will be the long-time leader of ENSO, Arvo Leibur, who has gained recognition in Estonia and abroad as a soloist as well as a chamber musician. In 2005, he received the Annual Award of the Estonian Music Council for his outstanding work as a soloist and for shaping the sound of ENSO. In 2008, he was awarded the Order of the Oranje-Nassau by the Kingdom of the Netherlands for his long-term work as the leader of various symphony orchestras in the Netherlands. Arvo Leibur started working with ENSO already as a student. On almost 30 occasions he has performed with the orchestra as a soloist, at the 1993 Europamusicale Festival in Munich among them. Since 2001, he has performed as leader of the orchestra.

For the very first time, ENSO will go on a foreign tour with the Finnish conductor Leif Segerstam. Segerstam’s career as a conductor started in the Finnish National Opera. He has subsequently worked with the Stockholm Royal Opera, Berlin’s Deutsche Oper, with the Austrian, Finnish and Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfaltz and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2012, he has been the principal conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. He also regularly works as a guest conductor with other symphony orchestras all over the world and conducts performances in the New York Metropolitan Opera, London Royal Opera House, La Scala in Milan and others.
