Conductor NIKOLAI ALEXEEV

Nikolai Alexeev, the former principal conductor of ENSO, has repeatedly enriched ENSO seasons with wonderful performances of Russian music. This time he will introduce to the audience a true citizen of the world, Igor Stravinsky, who composed most of his works in France and the United States.

The three ballets that first brought Stravinsky international recognition, FirebirdPetrushka and The Rite of Spring, were written during the national (or “Russian”) period in his youth and were commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev’s famous ballet company. The Neoclassical Symphony of Psalms was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Requiem canticles, written five years before the composer’s death, includes the characteristics of his earlier works along side the serial techniques of his later works.
