Arvo Volmer, one of our top conductors and former chief conductor of ENSO, will perform together with his long-time creative partner – the violinist Benjamin Schmid.

Benjamin Schmid’s career took off after winning the Carl Flesch competition in London (1992). Today, he has performed with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, and conductors as Christoph von Dohnányi, David Zinman, Seiji Ozawa, Valeri Gergiev and others.Schmid´s diverse repertoire includes violin concertos by Hartmann, Gulda, Korngold, Muthspiel, Szymanowski, Lutosławski and Reger; and he is also a remarkable jazz violinist. Benjamin Schmid has recorded nearly 50 CDs, for which he has won prestigious awards, including the Deutschen Schallplattenpreis (both in the classical and jazz categories), the Echo Classic Prize, the Grammophone Editor’s Choice and the Strad Selection.

He plays on the extraordinary instrument, the Stradivarius violin ex Viotti from 1718, which was made available to him by the Österreichische Nationalbank.
