The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra celebrates their 80th anniversary this season. Most of the concerts at their home stage Henry Crown Auditorium are recorded for the Jerusalem Radio. Their contribution in ordering, performing, and recording new music from their own native composers is very important. To celebrate Jerusalem’s 3000th anniversary, the oratory „The Seven Gates of Jerusalem“ by Krzysztof Penderecki, one of today’s greatest composers, was ordered and first performed under the conduction of maestro Lorin Maazel.

During its long lifetime, the orchestra has been led by numerous legendary musicians such as Igor Stravinsky, Arthur Rubinstein, Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma, Pierre Boulez, Martha Argerich, and Radu Lupu. Every season, they give concerts in Europe and America. The latest concert tours have taken the orchestra to Brazil and Japan.

In Estonia, the orchestra is led by their frequent guest conductor Andres Mustonen.
