The pianist Olga Kern currently resides in the United States. She is a remarkable artist of her generation, someone who has a worldwide reputation. Her bright stage persona, her passionate and confident way of producing music, and her unique technical master class all serve to allure audiences everywhere.

Olga Kern was born into a family of musicians. She is related to Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. She began learning to play the piano at the age of five. After reaching seventeen she won the Rachmaninov competition in Moscow. However, her career took off in the USA after winning an historical gold medal at the Van Cliburn international competition for pianists in Texas. Today she is an highly regarded artist in America and in Europe alike.

The first half of the concert is Olga Kern’s musical tribute to Serge Rachmaninoff – a powerful pianist and genius composer. Rachmaninov’s legendary recording – interpretation of Schumann’s “Carnival” has survived to this day, and for a long time it has been a source of inspiration for Kern.

It is also known that Rachmaninoff loved the music by George Gershwin and was deeply saddened by his early death. Therefore, in addition to Rachmaninoff also Schumann and Gershwin’s music will be heard tonight.

The year 2023 marks the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of birth of Sergei Rachmaninov.
