Samuel Saulus (1933–1990) was one of the most distinguished and influential wind instrument players in the history of Estonian music, who completely changed the perceptions of flute playing that had prevailed until his time. Throughout his entire career as a professional musician he worked with ENSO, clocking up 38 concert seasons, and leading the flute section from 1963 until his death. Saulus was a member of the legendary Jaan Tamm Wind Quintet, the Emil Laansoo Ensemble and the Metronoom Ensemble. On his and Neeme Järvi’s initiative, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra was established in 1960. In 1980, he established the Barocco Revaliensis Ensemble. Saulus regularly performed as a soloist with ENSO as well as the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, and several Estonian composers have dedicated works to him. From 1976, he also taught at the Tallinn Conservatory, becoming an example and mentor for many well-known Estonian flutists.

Soloists at the concert are Clara Andrada de la Calle, the solo flutist with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Assia Cunego, the solo harpist with ENSO. In addition to working with orchestras, both artists also actively perform solo recitals and chamber concerts.

Conducted by Neeme Järvi, the principal conductor and artistic director of ENSO.
