„Clarinetists on the roof“ – Duo Gurfinkel and Estonian Sinfonietta Soloists
Paraphrasing one of the most famous Broadway musicals „Fiddler on the Roof“ by Jerry Bock, the concert presents a duo of twin brothers from Israel, Alexander and Daniel Gurfinkel. Already at the age of 12, they were invited by Zubin Mehta to appear as soloists with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Their remarkable musical talent has unlocked a whole new level for the clarinet as a solo instrument.
The concert shines a spotlight on many other soloists as well: Johannes Põlda (violin), Jarkko Ensio Launonen (violincello), Karl Johann Lattikas (vibraphone) and in the last piece of the evening, „Carnival of Venice“ by Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, solos are played by everyone on the stage, which is truly remarkable by itself. In addition to the music of Bock and Ernst, pieces by Paganini, Mendelssohn, Massenet, Debussy, Giampieri and Piazzolla can be heard.
