Introduction

Performers:

Vox Luminis ensemble (Belgium)
Artistic director Lionel Meunier

Programme:
Geist, Förtsch, Hammerschmidt, Hermann

The programme is based on motets from the seventeenth century which were also used by Johannes Brahms when he created his wonderful German Requiem a few hundred years later.

Vox Luminis is focussed on performing English, Italian, and German music from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Their repertoire includes well-known chef-d’oeuvres, as well as untouched pearls which have been discovered in various cultural layers. The ensemble’s unique sound has earned it plenty of international acknowledgement and prestigious awards. Depending on the repertoire, the carefully selected core of vocal soloists is supported either by an extensive continuo group, or solo instruments, or an orchestra. The founder, artistic director, and bass singer for the ensemble is Lionel Meunier. Meunier made sure that every voice would be able to shine as a soloist, while also being able to merge into the unified fabric of sound.
