The Estonian guitarist Jaak Sooäär, the Armenian-Estonian bassist Ara Yaralyan and the Finnish drummer Markku Ounaskari formed their trio in the spring of 2016. Together the three men have performed in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland. The trio’s music, with its Nordic undertones, focuses on melody, but the programme also includes exotic Armenian tunes and improvisations on the themes of Bach. The trio has already recorded three albums: “A Shooting Star” (2018), “Goodbye July” (2020), and “Zula” (2023). In addition, the trio has also been awarded the Estonian Jazz Ensemble of the Year title in 2022.
