Duo Telluur and director Helen Rekkor bring to the stage a symbiosis of the shadow theater and music that invites you on a journey to a world of sounds and visuals. Duo Telluur is a musical combination testing with classical guitar, English horn, and oboe. Helen Rekkor, the director of the Estonian theater scene, developing a visual poetic theater language, is returning to the aesthetics of the shadow theater to convey the vision of music inspired by arrangements of Duo Telluur. The concert performance “The World of the Sleep Fairy” invites the audience to experience the mysterious world of shadows and melodies. Just like music is a means beyond the language to convey landscapes and the atmosphere of emotions, the techniques of a shadow theater is also a great way to tell stories without needing words, trusting the audience’s senses and willingness to join in the adventure.
Created in 2015, Duo Telluur was named after a chemical element that is rare, silvery and fragile just like the band’s acoustic unique sound. The guitar and the cor anglais are a rare combination of instruments in the musical world. The Duo is inspired by the subtle concord of our instruments and the ability to play not just the well-established repertoire, but the latest music and favorites from music written for other groups of musicians!
Helen Rekkor is a freelance director and actor, and she graduated from the Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu in both specialties. After theater studies in Estonia, she worked as an assistant, playwright, and musical designer, and as an educator and director of a drama troupe of people with intellectual disabilities in Melbourne, Australia.
Helen Rekkor has twice been nominated in different categories of annual awards of the Estonian Theater nominated for Salme Reek Prize with the shadow theater performance “Across the Waters” in 2015, and in 2017 in the category of performing arts award with “Syrian Folktales”. In 2018, she won the Ants Lauter director’s prize. She is a founding member and artistic director of Misanzen, a theater association experimenting with visual theater language.
