Introduction

Performers:

Ralf Taal (piano)

Programme:
Schubert. Sonata in B-flat Major, D. 960
Mozart. Sonata in D Major, K. 576
Liszt. „Réminiscences de Don Juan“ S. 418

Schubert’s Sonata in B-flat Major in the first half of the programme could be a summary of a person’s life. The main theme is an elastic canticle which is followed by a mystical bass movement, taking us to the beyond. The lighter nuances remind us of the lost happiness.

The other half of the programme is dedicated to Mozart’s music and finishes off with Liszt’s supremely intricate opera-inspired „Réminiscences de Don Juan“ – a work that was deemed the very best achievement in pianism by the legendary pianist Ferruccio Busoni.

Ralf Taal, one of the Estonian top solo pianists and esteemed ensemblists, is a romantic musician through and through, known for his virtuoso technique and demanding programmes. He has performed in Estonia, Finland, Norway, Germany, and Latvia, having soloed with almost all the Estonian orchestras, performed around 20 instrumental concerts (including the new works by Raimo Kangro and Tõnis Kaumann), and cooperated with such conductors as Eri Klas, Paavo Järvi, Arvo Volmer, Olari Elts, Tõnu Kaljuste, Anu Tali, Jüri Alperten, Leo Krämer, and others.
