Introduction

Performers:

Johan Randvere (piano)

Concert series “I as an interpreter”

Programme:
Rääts. “24 marginals” op. 65
Debussy. “Suite Bergamasque”
Tchaikovsky-Pletnyov. Nutcracker Suite op. 71a
Hindemith. Piano sonata no 3 B major

The concert program is inspired by the performance of three great pianists Sviatoslav Richter, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and Mikhail Pletnyov.

I was in Livorno, watching the Italian TV channel Rai 5, which featured a show dedicated to Michelangeli. Michelangeli’s dedication to pianism was admirable, his Debussy recordings are simply extraordinary! By comparison, I listened to Richter’s recording, which is quite different, yet imperceptible and frighteningly ingenious.

This concert program plays an important role in Johan Randvere’s doctoral dissertation “The Work Process of Pianism in Designing the Form of Jaan Rääts’ Piano Works”. Out of Rääts’ remarkable piano work, a cycle of “Marginaalid”consisting of 24 short pieces, offering the pianist a good challenge.

The joint concert series of Eesti Kontsert and the Association of Professional Musicians presents the chamber music in the best concert halls of the state with the representatives of the 335- member creative union of Estonian musicians with programmes of carefully selected classics.
