Introduction

Performers:

Tim Kliphuis Trio: Tim Kliphuis (violin), Nigel Clark (guitar), Roy Percy (double bass), Kaspar Uljas (bandonium)
Tallinn Chamber Orchestra

We will hear Astor Piazzolla’s original work and Tim Kliphuis’ arrangements for his trio and orchestra.

Piazzolla’s anniversary programme is perhaps a little exceptional and hopefully a little more than just another anniversary concert. Of course, the concert will feature the composer’s well-known standards, such as “Libertango” and “Oblivion,” but the program will also feature references to Piazzolla’s love for jazz that which got its impetus from the music played in New York during the composer’s years of development. A major influence for Piazzolla was also classical music which he studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.

The Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Tim Kliphuis Trio have on several occasions presented their common musical chemistry and impeccable mutual understanding. Tim Kliphuis’s unique and inventive arrangements for his trio and orchestra have evoked an enthusiastic reception from the audience. The concert will also feature Kaspar Uljas, the only player of the so-called Piazzolla instrument or bandonium in Estonia.
