Introduction

Performers:

Martin Schmeding (organ, Germany)

Programme:
Bach. Goldberg variations, BWV 988 (abridged version)
Schumann. Two fugues on BACH, Op. 60
Max Reger. Phantasie und Fuge über BACH; Op. 46

The Goldberg variations are a magnum opus that few dare to play and even fewer manage to play it efficaciously. German critics say that Schmeding imprisons the listener with his performance. Therefore, it is a good idea to go and hear him play. This is precisely the kind of suggestiveness that Count con Keyserlingk needed to forget his insomnia and pains. The legend that Bach wrote the piece to accompany the Count on sleepless nights goes along with the story of its birth. Music therapy in the 18th century!
